Outside, it is sunny, and the city is as busy as ever. When I spot my father’s sedan, I point. “He’s there.”

Standing from the wheelchair, a tear slides down my cheek as Dad opens the door then looks back at me. When he sees the tears, he immediately wraps me in a hug.

“Dad, everything has to be all right.”

“I know it will be.” He kisses my forehead.

At home, I sleep most of the day, and when Mom and London get home, I have to pry all the new school information from London. I can tell she’s excited but also worried about me. I hate that—her worrying. No child her age should go through what she has been through.

As we fall asleep, all I can think about is being healthy for her and vow to let nothing take precedence. Nothing.

The next day, I feel good enough that Dad and I set everything up in the apartment. He jokes about the fact that his ploy to get me to stay here while attending college is no longer a waste of time and space.

It’s truly good to be home.

I make dinner for the four of us and a cake, celebrating London’s new beginning and give her brand-new electronics to replace the ones that Brody gifted her, all of which I ordered online, spending way too much money on a credit card, with cases that match the school colors—maroon and white. Because of this, she has no idea they are not the same and thanks me for the cases. I will avoid that conversation for as long as I can.

Later that evening, up and using the bathroom, my phone chimes.

I pull it out of my hoodie pocket and see his name.

- Seems I’m not the only one making the gossip sites. Is this why we are done? A new man? Are you really no different, Emma? … Brody
